DISTRICT NEWS.
PEHU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The road to Tangitu through Kiore station, on which groups of men have been at work, for many months, lias now so far progressed, being nearly to the end of the, Puke road, that the settlers, for the first time since the settlement of the land, twelve years a{;o, are able to bale their wool up and send direct by _ waggon instead, as in the past, bagging and packing for miles on horseback.
Mr I. Henry's Jersey bull, which was sold at the Uruti sale on Friday, for the benefit of the Belgian Fund, fetched ten guineas. Other Pehu settlers who had stock for the same fund, were unable to get it out on account of the stormy weather.
Uruti settlers, however, vied with each other in contributing, and a large number of turkeys, geese, etc., also realised fair priees for the same purpose.
