SOLDIERS' WIVES STARVING. SCATHING -SOCIALIST INDICTMENT. Amsterdam, November 29. The Voerwaerts, in a scathing attack on the lack of financial support to soldiers' wives, states that there is in'•reasing discontent among the poorer classes. The paper demands that tlie Governments at Berlin and Vienna should put an end to such an inhuman proceeding.

The Times' correspondent describes si visit to Heligoland, gained through a gentleman lie entertained years ago. The island has been completely changed since the war. A beautiful little, bathing-plate has been converted into a huge fortress, tremendously fortified. Civilians have been compelled to leave, and only naval men are seen in the streets. All are busy, continuously improving the fortifications. -Many houses and trees have been removed to jrivc an uninterrupted view of the sea. Doubled sentries are watching unceasingly, to prevent surprise. The only women on the island are five nurses.
