EGMONT COUNTY COUNCIL.

ANNUAL MEETING. The statutory annual meeting of the Egmont County Council was held on Wednesday afternoon. Present: Councillors W. C. Dudley, T. Harvey, H. Dawcliffe, R. J. McNeill, M. Fleming, J. Young, M. J. Macßeynolds, and W. R. Wright. The returning officer and clerk (Mr Geo. W. Rogers) was absent, owing to ill-health. He had appointed Mr Opie the engineer as his deputy. The aeting-clork read the official declaration of the poll, and called for nominations for the position of chairman. Cr. McNeill proposed Cr. Fleming. Seconded by G. Macßeynolds. No other nomination being made, Cr. Fleming was duly declared elected. The chairman thanked the members for the honour conferred on him, and said that, he would endeavour to see that all p'arts of the county received a

fair and square deal. The second Friday in the month was selected as the ordinary meeting clay. Cr. McNeill endeavoured to get ordinary business dealt with, but members considered that in the absence of the clerk, it was better to leave this over till the next meeting. Cr. McNeill persisted in the matter of the Oeo and Skeet road work, and moved that tenders be called for erecting a bridge over the river at Schinkcl's (Oeo riding). This was seconded by Cr. Rawcliffe, but the motion was lost in favour of the following amendment: That urgent ap- | plication be made to the Treasury for the I money approved of for this bridge. j It was pointed out by Cr. Dudley that ' the work had been stuck up because the ;. Council could not obtain the money, ap- ' proved by the Department some months ago, from the Government lending department. The chairman remarked that they

would have to put the Reform Government out and put back the Liberals. A few questions asked by Crs. Campbell and McNeill were satisfactorily answered by the engineer, and the meeting terminated.
