DISTRICT NEWS.

NORFOLK ROAD. (From our Own Correspondent). A concert and dance in aid of tlie Belgian Fund was held in the Norfolk school on Friday, November 20, evening, when an excellent programme was submitted to a good attendance, over which Mr A. Marshall presided. A special feature of the programme was the contribution of Captain) Allen from Ngaorc.

The following in the programme:— Piano solo, Miss 15. Laurence; song, Mr I'Oftns; song, Miss C. Hogan; recitation Captain Allen; song, Mr W. J. Matthewssong, Mrs E. Knox; reading, Mr H. Trimble; recitation, 'Mr.O. Bolt; son", Miss G. Hogan; song, Mr 0, Knox; recitation, Capt. Allen, "The Absent Minded Beggar"; song, Mr B. Dombroski: reading, Mr A. Marshall, song, Mr Loftus; recitation, Mr Loftus; concertina selection, Captain Allen. The attending public were evidently out ?<y« a feast of music for, despite the very liberal length of the programme, all the songs were encored and some of the recitations. At the. conclusion of the. concert, the National Anthem was sung with much vigor, being played by Mrs W. J. Matthews and then refreshments were handed around and evidently enjoyed, the floor was prepared for the second half of the programme. The dance, which needess to say, was supported beyond the limits <it actual dancing comfort, was thoroughly enjoyed, and kept tin well into the small hours of the morning. The music was supplied by the local 'ladies and gentlemen. The evening was a complete success from the beginning to the S ", s "! : Y , bu gauged from the fact that the Belgian relief fund will benefit to the extent of slightly over £S The committee desire to extend their sincere thanks to the several contributors to the programme, mid also the ladies who provided the refreshments, thereby ensursuch an unqualified success.
