FIRES.
I MR. J. G. WILSON'S RESIDENCE DESTROYED. By Tolegraph.—Per Press Association. Pdlmerston N., 'Last Night. A disastrous firo, which was discovtrod in Mr. J. G. Wilson's fine reasdenfie at Bulls at '2 o'clock this afternoon,, resulted i" 'ts total destruction, together ' with t : iie beautiful garden, surrounding ' fences, ornamental trees, gates, etc. The I outbreak was discovered by a servant I who was in tho roof between tire servants' bedroom and the kitchen chimney. A strong wind was blowing at (the time ,which assisted the flames to spread with luarvollou* rapidity. Large numbers of local residents were quickly on the scene, but the fire had a very j strong hold before t're chemical engine arrived, and all hopes to save the building were futile. Through the assistance of willing hands, a considerable
quantity of furniture! was saved. ' The building contained from 12 to 14 rooms, and was one of the finest residences in the district. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, two daughters, anil a. servant were at home at the time. Insurances at the present time are not ascertainable, but it is understood that the building and effects are 'insured iu the Farmers' Union Mutual Insurance Office.
