THE COMING ELECTION
To tlio Editor, Sir, —As one directly concerned in the dairying industry in North Taranaki, it appears to me that every farmer should seriously consider the position in regard to Parliamentary representation, for the simple reason that our existence as fanners who can pay our way depends largely upon the political body having chiirgc of the country's affairs. This may seem at first glance' to he an exaggerated view, hut let me. take my fellows in memory back to the days of last November last when the Red Federation had charge of the exportation for a while. They said that not a ship should leave Wellington harbor until their demands were, satisfied, and in a little while they so disorganised shipping that we never recovered from the injury done. Our -balancesheets at the end of the year all told the same tale of lessened returns. 'We might have been ever so much 'worse, only fortunately we had a Government in power which w».s able to exercise firmness with the strikers, and secure confidence in the country, and,-guarding the wharves and those who would work, got our butter away, late, it is true, but "better late than never." Wc all remember the speech made by Sir Joseph Ward' in the House about the special constables, and we see how the Red Federation and the Ward party working under what looks like a common understanding so that the former's candidates arc not clashing with the latter, these being straws showing which way the wind blows. Slow, in the electorate of Taumarunui, we have the opportunity of electing a candidate to support Mr Afassey or one to support Sir Joseph Ward. As one may make all the difference ill the House either by keeping Mr Massey in or out, the farmers can see how extremely necessary it is to all vote together, and I would earnestly ask all my fellows to give their support to Mr Wilson, a member of the Reform party, the fanner's friend, and a farmer himself. I am, cte., DAIRYMAN. Waitara, Novambev 23.
