MOA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Moa" Road Board wa s held at Tnglewood on Saturday, when there were; present:— ■Messrs. H. Trimble (chairman), J. A. Bridgcman, W. (!. Shoemark, George Capper, A. D. Beauehamp, M. Hopson, 'A. Smith, J. Williams, and A. E. Laurence.
FOREMAN'S REPORT. •■ The foreman (Mr. W. R. Davies) submitti'.l his report, lie had inspected the Loppor road north of .Tunctioiitfoad, anil found that the metal had worked into throe ruts. Tie suggested getting 50 cubic yards more boulders, which, with the Hi yards now broken, would make a good road if scarified and rolled in. Ten cubic, yards of maintenance metal were required at the junction of the Lepper and Hursthouse roads. Various maintenance work had been attended to on the Lepper ißoad Xortli, and on the IJiii'sthouso road. A culvert required removing on the latter road. The metalling on the Bedford road north of Dudley road required by Mr. Darnell would cost £lB 5s 7(1. He had inspected the bridge over the Xgatoro River, on the Bedford road, and found that since the recent Hood the small shingle had been removed, and some big stones left, which should be blown out to safeguard the work that has to be done. The bridge over the Xgatoronui required repairing. Various maintenance work had been effected on the Egmont road south. At the village end of Egmont road the HO yards of metal, flovernment grant, was' nearly completed. One hundred and fifty-six yards of metal had been placed on' the Rugby road, and other maintenance work had been,attended to. Drains had been cleaned out, ami three culverts renewed on the Norfolk Road East. The unmetalled portion of the Everett road had been put in fair order. Twenty yards of metal were required to repair the metalled portion. Richmond road had been put in good repair from end to end. Repair work had been done on the Kaimata road north-Bristol road. The bridge on the Bristol road required strengthening by putting in a new pier in the centre, at a cost of Cl.l. The Kopnra road had been put in good order. Mr. ] Crayling had completed his bridge on the Kohete road. Two other bridge? on the road were dangerous. One required replacing with a similar bridge to the one just completed, and the other could be replaced with large concrete pines. Mr. Orozior had delivered Ifl'/j yards of 'metal on the Toi Toi'road, lit fis per /yard. A wooden culvert in the Toi Toi road required removing witli pipes. The Mana. Knimata road south, Ratspiko, and Moutakawa roads had received attention. There had been manufactured at, the pipe depot .If pipes, ranging in size from f) inehes to 3 f"ot.
The report, was adopted. Sixty yards of nwi.'il will he procured for Le)ipcr road, north of -Tunction road, and the culvert on that road will lie replaced liv pines. Tho-honldors in the centre of the X-a-toro stream are to lie Mown out. XOAKO UOAD. The Puhlie Works Department forwarded n copy of an Onler-in-("'ouneil. declaring Xjraro road a di-triet road. The chairman stated that he had a .kcd the foreman to report on tin- road before they took it over.
The foreman's report was to the effect that tin' road required C2O to C2."i expending upon it before it could lie considered in pood order. Tt was resolved to writ;' to the Minister of Piililic Works, drawiii- attention to tlie condition of tlie road, and objecting to take it over while in such a had condition. 1 < GOVERNMENT GRANTS. The Public Works Department forwarded schedule, showing the unauthorised balances of votes for road and bridge works, which it was proposed to entrust to tlie Road Hoard for expenditure. They were as follows:—Hill road, £SO; Everett road (pound for pound), £200; Kairoata South (pound for pound), ,C2ofl; Kohete (pound for pound), ;G'2oo; Ngatoro Stream bridge (pound for pound), £200; Ttatapiko (pound for pound), ;C10(); and Rimutautcka (pound for pound), .£IOO. Notification was also received from the Public Works Office, Stratford, that. from and after the Ist inst. pay.n; nis to local bodies for work done and assisted by subsidy or Government grant will be paid direct from the Stratford centre. ' The Hoard discussed the matter of raising loans to take up the subsidies, and it was resolved that steps be taken to raise, the loan money necessary to cam the subsidies named. EVERETT ROAD LOAN. The State Advances Department asked i "that all documentary evidence of steps taken to raise the loan should be forwarded, and if' these were satisfactory tlie loan would be proceeded with. The chairman reported that the objection by -Mr Curtis to tlie non-inclusion in the special rating area, of a section owned by Mr. Hoby had been heard by the' Magistrate, at Jnglewood, but bad not been upheld.. Mr. Laurence considered that the work on the F.vefctt road should be pushed on with all speed. Jt wa:i decided to hold a special meeting of the Board on Saturday, December 5 th, to pas s the spesial order in connection ivitli this loan. The Merseer will also make a report on this road for the special meeting. TENDERS. Tenders were accepted for the supply of metal as follows: —■ Shingle, Dudley West, 150 yards: Grylls and Laurence, Gs. f Pit Metal, Egmont North, 200 yards: Rowan and Thompson, 4s 3d; Hursthouse, 25 yards, Rowan and Thompson, !)s (id; Kainuita North, 100 yards, Grylls , and Laurence, Ss; Wortley, 50 yards, Grylls and Laurence, 7s fld; Toi Toi, j Rowan and Thompson, (is. Tenders for the York (100 yards) and Lincoln (100 yards) were not accepted. GENERAL. The Board's surfacemen forwarded a petition, and asked to be granted six days' holiday on full pay at Christmas. It was resolved to grant six days' holidays at half-pay. The foreman was instructed to have the scrub cut from the various bridges. Accounts for £197 Is od were passed for payment.
