CRICKET.

THE THURSDAY COMPETITION. The second round of the Thursday competition was played yesterday, when Tikorangi secured a two-point win over Phoenix, on the Tikorangi ground. The other match set down for decision, at the High School ground, between High School and Inglewood, was postponed, owing to the High School sporta. The best performances were:—

Phoenix could only muster nine men to make the trip to Tikorangi yesterday, a notable absentee being F. Robertson, and, though they were given two substitutes, both of whom were allowed to bat, the team suffered defeat by 23 runs. Tikorangi batted first, and put on 125, W. Fuller obtaining 53 by fine cricket, although he was missed twice. E. Roberts, of football fame, scored 24. Extras (14) and C. Foreman (12) were the only others to obtain double figures. Hasell and <swillim opened well for Phoenix, and 37 was on the board before the former was bowled by C. Foreman for 17, which included a <5 and a 4. Hasell scored 37 before falling to the same bowler. No other member of the team could reach double figures, and the innings closed for 100.
