(To the Editor). Sir, —The attached is a copy of questions sent to the Mayor. He states he handed them to Mr Pearce, but the latter declined to answer written questions. I should like to know why?—l am, etc. E. DIXON, Hawera, November 17. 1. What reason he gave for the Government departing from the r(!ute of the Opunake-Te Roti railway, decided upon by a commission of experts? 2. Can you inform the meeting the «ost of tin; viaduct that will have to be erected in order to bring the railway nearer Eltliam that would not have been required by adhering to the route decided upon by the independent Government commission? If you cannot give the cost of the viaduct, can you inform the meeting of the extra cost of the taxpayer for this alteration? 3. Is the difference in the cost the amount the Government are prepared to pay to assist in winning an election? 4. Why have the advertisements been altered to read Opunake-Te Roti railway to Opunake-Eltham railway? 5. When the Premier visits Hawera would you arrange for him to visit Te Eoti and see the two routes in question ?
