The synopsis is as follows:—Governor Walter Garland; his sweetheart, Ella Ring; fixing the wedding day; reports of ill-treat-ment in the prison; Governor Garland decides to get arrested, pass a time in the prison and investigate the matter personally; John Brown, convict; his wonderful likeness to tho Governor; release of John Brown; mistaken identity; the Governor detained and his assertions of his identity laughed at; kept in durance vile; John Brown impersonates the Governor; Ella King wooed by the convict; the hour of the wedding; the Governor's escape from prison; his appearance at the church; Ella recognises him; a villain's schemes overthrown; all':i well that ends well.
