Airs iselig, who was well-known to old identities in New Zealand, was in her ninety-fifth year. She was tlie mother of Mr l\ Selig, manager of the C'hristchurch Press Company.
' A London cable announces the death 'of Cecil llaleigh, dramatist. Tills was the assumed name of a son of Dr J. ji'. 'Rowlands. The'deceased dramatist -was born in Monmouthshire and became aet'mg manager of the Royalty Theatre, afterwards dramatic critic for ''Vanity 'Fair.' He, wrote several melodramas, 'notably "The Pointsman," and many pantomimes. ' Private advice has been received in Christchurch (says a Press Association telegram) of the death, of Lieut. 0. D. M. Garcia, of the First Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, who was wounded at the battle of the Aisne. Lieutenant Garcia was a son of Oaptain Garcia, formerly of Christcliurch, and was born at Riecurton in I'SSS. The late Lieutenant Garcia' had a brother on 11.M.5. New Zealand.,
The late Captain Price Vaughan Lewes, who w;is recently in command of the wursbfp Superb, and who has died from wounds, visited New Plymouth some years ago in command. of" H-MS. Cambrian, and during the short time his ship lay at Moturoa he made him*self very popular with all who met him. He was a typical English gentleman, and a capable officer. At one time he was Deputy-Commissioner for the Western Pacific, and latterly 'had been in command of HALS. Superb, which was completed. 'll 100!). She had a d.hplacement of 18,000 tons and a sfteed of 21 knots. General regret v.u' be felt at the news of Captain Lewes' death, particularly by those who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance.
