CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING, The ordinary monthly meeting of the Clifton County Council was held at Waitara yesterday, when there were present: Crs. A. M. Bower (chairman), B. T. Hicks, S. Elliott, S. J. Kennington, W. Jones and H. Sander. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer (Mr. C. F. Dowsett) re. ported on work done during the month as follows: Wailii Riding—Operations ia the Onaero pit had been completed. contractors had been engaged in carting boulders from the beach to the Onaero and Turangi depots. Tikorangi Riding—ln the absence of any provision being made for the Otaraoa road formation, he had wired the Minister of Public Works requesting favorable consideration for a grant being placed on the Supplementary Estimates for this work. Xgatimaru Riding—The contractors for supplying metal from Bullock's pit on the Junction road had completed their contract ami were proceeding with their work at the Tarata end. Wells' culvert: The large monier pipes were being made and would require at least a mont'i or more to mature ln-fore being shifted. Prices were submitted for timber for tlie surfaceman's cottage at Tarata. Drake Bros, had promised to proceed with the sanding at Matau, probablv next month. The time was op-, portune for sending the small grader to Matau, and this had been arranged! for.
Urenui Riding—Re-coating "with .crave! on the Main and Moerangi roads had been completed. On the Piko road the contractors were proceeding steadily with their formation contract. The completion of the Okoke metalling contract would ho proceeded with verv shortly. The co-rtage of boulders from the beach to the Urormi depot had been completed. He purposed starting crushing there next week; to delay this work further would interfere with the Uruti work. , Mokau Riding—The Tfawera culvert had been completed. The construction of the beams in King's bridge would be; completed this week. At the flood open-. ing the piles had been driven, and thej side walls would shortly be finished.' The boulder contract fur the main road' was practically completed, and a large: quantity of material blown out for the : Uruti road contract would be spawled! forthwith. He had inspected metal de-' posits on the Forest Reserve, Mt. Mes-1 senger. That was the duty • of the Government. j The Chairman: "That is your op'n-j ion. I have a different one. Anyi'.o'.v,; we will take your motion." I This was seconded by Councillor, Jones. j Cr. Hicks thought that the people were contributing well through butter, factories, etc. The Chairman: The Government is' borrowing £2,000,000 to send the Ex-: peditionary foicos Home. The chairman and Cr Hicks. who had been appointed a committee to receive tenders for the lease of the reserve at Onaero, reported that one tender hud l.pen received From the Xorth Tavan:>ki Dairy Company at £4 per annum, and that this had been accepted. TENDERS. Two tenders were received for the supply of metal and earthwork at Uruti (Mimi-Mokau), but as both were considered too hijvh, neither wan accepted, the engineer beinp instructed to get the work done by day labour. Messrs. Henry Brown and Co.'s tender was accepted for the supply of timber and joinery for the surfaceman's cottage at Tarata. Tenders will be called for carting the same fioiu Inglewood.

The clerk (vas authorised to take necessary steps to raise a loan of .C2GOO for the Tanidtn. The engineer was instructed to attend to ;||.! matter of clearing pound paddock at Uruti. The chairman was voted £25 expenses for the past year. Accounts amounting to £829 15s. 7d. were passed for payment.
