MOW MOTOK SERVICE. On Sunday next a regular motor 'bus service to the. North Mountain House will bo inaugurated i-.y Mr. W. W. Jackson, who fin Konit- :.i:i!'> fust has been running a"tri-wecfcty coach service between New Plymouth and Inglewood. He has invested in a 3."> horse-power Overland 12-neater.'l.us, and yesterday a trial trip to the mountain was made. Aboard were His Worship the Mayor •(Mr. J. W. Wilson), Mr W. A. Collis (cliairman of the Mountain House Committee), Mr. K. W. C:a-wv (local agent for Cook's), and the following members of the Expansion and Tourist "Irtwuc:— Messrs. T. C. List .(jchainnan), A. E Sykes, K. Webster, W. 0. Weston* A. McHardy, J. R. Cruickshank, and S. Teed. The run was successful in every way. The journey up was done comfortably in one and th/'ee.quarter' iiours, and the return in one' hour and a quarter.

At the Mountain House the party were the guests of the Mountain House Committee to afternoon tea.

Opportunity was taken' of the occasion to congratulate -Mr. Jackson upon his enterprise, anil .wish him success. Mr. Collis, speaking on behalf of the Mountain House CoimriiUeo, said that the institution of a regular service was just what was wanted to popularise the House. They had revised this for some time, and they were very grateful to Mr. Jackson for coming to the fore and filling what was a \KTy real need. He entertained no doubt :m io tlie ultimate financial success of the venture, and hoped that the patronage offering would soon warrant an extension of the facilities proposed.

'Mr. List spoke to similar effect. A regular service, with moderate prices, would considerably assist the work upon which the Expansion and Tourist League was engaged. Mr. Jackson had been good enough to consult (lie League and the Mountain House Committee in arranging hia time-table, and lie could rely upon the League's hearty support and cooperation in placing the service upon a successful footing. Tim services would bring the mountain within reach of a numerous class of people, who hitherto had been prevented bv the cost from making the trip. His Worship the Mayor, in adding his congratulations, stated that Mr. Jackson was proving a benefactor to the town, for there were large numbers who could take advantage of a cheap and regular service to such a unique and fine place as the mountain. The town possessed a splendid beach, and as a variation they could have nothing better than the mountain. He felt certain the service would realise all expectations. Cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Graham (caretakers of the House), and the descent was successfully accomplished. The This runs very sweetly, riding in it being quite aB comfortable as in a motor car. On'the flats it travels at 18 miles an hour, and takes the steepest of gradients without difficulty. The matter of the time-table was discussed by the League, it being decided to suggest that the service start on Sunday, leaving* at 8 a.m., and returning from the hostelry at 5, similarly on Tuesdays. It was also suggested that a week-end service should be inaugurated as soon as possible, leaving town at 8 on Saturday nights, and returning early on Monday. The question of fares is to be discussed with the proprietor.
