ASSAULT OX A SON-IN-LAW. By Tel -graph.---Per Presi Association. ' Auckland, Yesterday: In fie Police Court, Gustav Kronfchl. a well-known business man unci a naturalised uriish subject admitted tha-t lie assaulted h,s son-in-law," Walter Gaudin; by striking the latter on the head with a bot;le. The defendant stated that he had had much trouble with Gaudin (in account of the latter*having given way to drink. Gaudin was brought irom Koto Jloa Island to see defendant m his office with regard jo private matters. A remark was .made by Gaudin about his wife, who is defendant's daughter. _ Tl e so irritated defendant that he picked up a soda water bottle to chase Gnu.lm out of the room. Gaudin turned on him, and defendant struck him with the bottle. Defendant expressed regret for his act. hut explained that he had much to endure. The magistrate recognised the in'ionse provocation and considering i|hat and the triflin°- injury imposed a fine of £5 and costs amounting to £1 Ss.
