BRITISH ARTILLERY SUCCESS. GERMAN 'POSITION TAKEN. OUR MEN OUTNUMBERED, BUT VICTORIOUS. London, November 2. The German artillery at Poe-J:.-Cap-pt'.le, near Roulers, on 'Wednesday night, opened lire in the direction of Boesinghe, under cover of which the infantry strongly entrenched themselves at Poe-la-Cappelle. The British artillery bomburded the German position with- remarkable precision throughout Thursday, and the French infantry stormed four successive lines of trenches, slaying thousands.
The British have had terrible fighting lately in the region of Ypres. The Germans made desperate bayonet rushes on the British trenches. The British were sometimes outnumbered by ten to one, but repeatedly hurled back the enemy, and recaptured the village by magnificent bayonet chargvs. After the capture of Lavenel fifteen British troops livid the trench for twenty-four hours against 700 Germans until relieved. One British soldier was wounded.
It is reported that a Belgian cyclist corps b : ew up a I'ridgc in the ■Dixmunde region, resulting in the cutting off of thousands of Germans, who surrendered. I'aris, November 2.

FRENCH OFFICIAL REPORT. VIOLENT GERMAN ATTACKS PROVE A FAILURE. Received 7.50 p.m. Paris, November 2 (evening). Official.—Despite a continuance of the violent German offensive, we progressed slightly between Dixmunde and Lys, except at Afcssines, wiicli we lost.
I Groat ijerman attacks in the suburbs of Arras, Lihous, and Lequisnoy failed in the centre. We progressed in the direction of TrecMival ami parts of the right bank of the Aisne, ! ri.wcn Dorcdelaigle and Soissons.
The enemy bombarded the Allies between Argeanc and the Meuse heights. We recaptured the 'hsights dominating the pass St.. Marie, and occupied the cntmy's portions at Handesapt.
