NEWTON KING'S REPORT. j On Friday, 23rd inst., at my Waiwakailio yards, I bad a full yarding of cattle, with a good attendance of buyers. Competition was good for most lines, although prices showed a slight decline euns'/ijiii'iit upon the shortness of feed throughout the southern districts. Good 15-month heifers made up to £2 18s; choice Jerseys (rather on the small side), £2 15s; good yearling heifers, £2 0 £2 is til!; small, £1 9s to £1 16s; yearling to 15-montli steers, £2 ICa to £3 9s 0,1; yearling holstein bull, £5 10s; yearling Jerseys, £1 7s (id to £2 12s Gd; dairy bulls, £4 Pis Gd to £8 10s; small cows with calves, £2 17s (Id to £4 IDs; empty- 2-year heifers, £3 2s to £3 13s; 'heavy ft* cows, up to £9 2s; others (light), £0 lis to £7 9s; fat heifers, £0 8s ; forward cows, up to £5 15s; good storo cows, £4 Os to £4 19s; smaller cows, £2 18a to £3 15s: boners, £1 2s Gd to £2 us; dairy cows, £5 to £7; good springing heifers, £5 15s to £7 15s; small, £3 12s 6d to £4 10s.
At Stratford on Tuesday 27th, I had a I full yarding of cattle coming forward much in excess of advertised numbers, Mil pens and races being well B]!ed. The enquiry throughout was quiet, but fair business was done during the afternoon, prices being a shade lower in most cases, as follows:—Choice 15-month heifers, £2 10s; good, £1 15s to £2 8s; smaller, £1 10s to £1 12s 6d; yearling to 15-inonth steers, £3 Is to £3 lis for ffood, and from £2 4s to £2 18s for smaller; empty 2-year lieifers (good Shorthorns), up to £4 9s; otliers, £3 8s Gd to £3 15s; bulls, £3 to £9; cows and calves, £5 to £5 ss; light fat cows, £0 18s to £7 lGs; forward cows, £5 5s Ito £0 2s; storecows (good), £4 Is to £4 13s; lighter framed cows, £3 2s to CS 10s; aged cows (mostly poor conditioned), £2 to £2 18s Gd; 3-year bullocks, £7 10s; hoggets, 15s Id to 17s; empty ewes, 18s 3d.
