TROTTING CONFERENCE.
THE RUSH FOR PERMITS. By Tebgrnph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, October 22. A special meeting of the New Zealand Trotting conference was held to-day for the purpose of considering applications for new totalisator licenses under the Gaming Act Amendment Act, I'll-]. Aplications for permits were received from the following clubs: llorowhenua, Manawatu, Waikato, Poverty Hay, llawke's Bay, Waimate Plains, Kaikouru Granity, South Canterbury, Southland, Wintoii, and Westland.
y After discussion, it was left to the executive, with Messrs Wallace and Maekenzie. (representing the Nortli and South Islands respeetivelv), to make .recommendations to the Minister. Theie are eight permits to be allotted. At the conclusion of the sitting, Mr Mickay referred to the attempt in Auckland to secure a stereotyped system of handicapping, and to the'lioycoit of the Auckland Trotting Cinb for not favoring this proposal. On Mr Mackay's motion, it was resolved to approve" of the stand taken by the Auckland Club.
