SPORTING.
AYAYURLEY NOTES. (By "Moturoa"). Sportsmen, like racehorses, gaiety girls, 'becr-chewers and other geun'y are all the better /or a spcil 'occasional! c. And goodness knows faianaki sport* have a decent rest from racing during the winter and spring months. Tnero hasn't 'been a meot.iig since Jluwcra in May last. That's one—two—why, it's marly six months! And to-day thev will all bo oil' to 'vYavcriey. AH 'bouncing along liglit-heaitediy' in train, or motor, or'behind old Dobbin. All with jingling pocket,, and as Hash as a Chinaman on a lady's bike. It's a great We!
The serious side of dhc game confronts punters with the Brewer Handicap (six furlongs), for which seven only are carded. Of these Zeles is engaged in the Cup. Lord Lupin heads the nsi with 0.0, which will probably slop him. Astor and Wild Lupin have not bcui doing startling work, but Incnru is bowling along nicely. Heather, who ran second at Mastcnon, looks well m with 7st. Last year at a dill'ercnee of Vlbs she 'beat Lord Lupin in the Jfivim: at Waverley. Heather may start favourite.
A moderate lot figure in the Morton Memorial Handicap. Alahlstock will probably be an absentee, and Quo A'ad's looks like starling a warm favourite. Shandon Bella ran one good race at iW'anganui in the wiiiier, and may beat the others.
An open race is the Handicap Hurdles. Thirteen arc carded, including Kew, hi. Cale and Queen's Post. T.'ie L'""': r,f the W'angamii contingent may pud h oil'. Ivew is most fancied down the line.
Then we come to the Wilson Slakes, a four furlong scramble, with only eighteen engaged! Maidens carry Bst., and winners uf any race 1-llbs extra. EnworiJi, on whom \\'. Young will have the .mount, will be strongly supported, but others that can ■go some include Calais, Gerberga and .Wild JJaUv. The lmter is a four-year-old mare bv Vhuli--111 ir—Xuru, and it will be remembered that she ran second to Gold .Solvit in a held of nineteen at C/iaki recently. ]■>,- worth won at llasterion with U.U, anil, barring accident*, nhould run well to-dav.
A disappointing Clip entry paw but seven to accept, and of ilu'se Katana (Ost.) appears t'o be in a clifts of his own. Koyal Dragoon is very well, and is sure to give his backers a good run for their money. Zcles (if reserved) might 'be dangerous, but ZeU-s on the tracks, and Zetes with the colours up are two very dill'erena. nags. The Flying Handicap will see cither of two sections of racegoers very sad and fiorry. Taranalu gays King Chira will win, and Wangawui'is just as positive that Denise Ormo will do the trick. ISoth are tit, and if King Chira gallops as freely as he did at Marton he must be hard to beat. The best of the "rwigliies" appears to be. .Silver March (Advance— .Sylvia Park mare). She can fly for four furlongs, and if she gelu out well will take some catching. Gay Guard is reported to he just trained -to the minute for the Moumahaki Stakes. Vietoris can run out a good iuilo and will most likely be running on when Gay Guard is feeling anything but gay. Florist is a consistent old hauler and she may effect a surprise.
The sprinters will meet again in the - Jackson Memorial Stakes (five furlongs), and the r i.:n:ng of the Wilson Stake, ui.iv "/ d ~..me light on the liual event. It i.-,- !), a n,v of lviwo:'.!i. laia!:. till I G. :b:ig t ;.<ea u. T\so.>i, v,:i.., e.ii. wrong .it Ctaki. has given C. .lac 1 son a !oi ol trouble, but it h reported lliat. an eli'<>i\ is being made to get the Coronet gelding to the pu-.i for one of the sprnis ,o-day. If airway well ]i,. would inn prominentl',--i especially nvir four furlongs. | The much-boomed Lord Multilid, by g Multifid—Lady Nell, will be produced at i; W'averley to-day. Then we will see this "crack." Whether he can beat Kpf worth at a difference of Mills is a moot • point. We'll know all about it to- ! night, anyhow!
The Waverley race card,'as usual, contains that relic of the Bar Von's days—"Wager, Dividend, Horses, Bace und— WITH WHOM.' This scribe has penned tliis same par four years in succession. It is time the Waverley Club "tumbled!''
The IWanganui Garrison Band, under Conductor A. Wade, will supply the ■music at Waverley. This fine band is always worth listening to, and to-day's programme eonlams many gemn. including selection-; from the Arcadians, and Patriotic air:-;. One item, the Tango ''Tres Moutarde," sheuid be flayed wnile (say) punters ar e .collecting their divide iuls ■oil" liataiu. THE WELLINGTON MEETING. The Wellington Racing Club Sprhi;* Meeting will be concluded 1 to-day at Trciß'liam, when the Champion Plate will engage mont attention. THE NEW ZEALAND CCP. Further pavments for the New Zealand Cup, wlp'cli fell due on Friday evening, saw the number of candidates further reduced to twenty. The defections ine'ude lileriot, Thrax, Royal Anns. Peroneal. HVc'ttus, Speeialfoi m. I'ortra.itu.ie,' SoiiltikolV, Imaronc. Ma u d.ila. Fwtkill. Chillies, Montana, ' Columbus. IWant, and Alhehlana.
