The. police are making strenuous efforts to stop demonstrations at Milan, Venice, and lireicia in favour of war against Austiia. Several arrests have been made at Venice. The Czar, in offering to liberate Italian prisoners of war, has asked Italy to undertake that thehy will not be returned to the Austria-Hungarian armv during the war. M. Salanora, in thanking the Czar, pointed out that Italy was unable to retain the men, who were not subject to Italian law.
