The Wellington Kacing Club's Sprng meeting opens at Trentham to-day, and will be concluded on .Monday. Acceptances for llie Hrs-.t d.iy bear a formidableappearance, and big lirlds \vi 1 probably line up for the majority of events. The principal event is the Wcllesloy Stakes (four furlongs), for two-year-olds, and amongst the likely i-tartcrs are promising youngsters like Co'dl'oil. Astcria, and 'Xenno. The Wellington Handicap (one mile mid a quarter,! lias drawn twenty, including I'mbcided, llaskayne, Awahou, and other good performers, l.'ndecided will probably start favourite, but the issue looks very open, and the top weight may lind Campeador and Maniaroa (of the light-weights) hard to dispose of. Another r.vce that will take some, sorting out is tile Shorts Handicap. Taramiki is represented by Crown Pearl, Kir llosclcy, and P:'ayoll'---a worthy trio. Willi a good start Sir ilosele.y might be bard to beat, but Crown Pearl and Postillion will not be far away. The minor events should ad provide good sport. Kaminolii and Montana may carry nwist support in tbei Kimutaka Handicap, The Pole and Blend' in the Hack Steeples, Mowbray and} Merry Frank in the Selling Plate, Mill-1 ,tiph/ and Peroneal in the Waimii Han-
dicap, and Ardent and Lady Black in the Final Scurry. * Waverley races on Monday. Centenary is being tried over hurdles. Silver March can go fast for four furlongs. Ca.stalia did not accompany J. Rac's team for Trentham,
Reputation promises to start a very warm order in the Champion Stakes on Monday.
The Deeley ease is nearly as amusing as that comedy, "Bunty Bulls the Strings." A good number of Tlawcra sports are •saving up to back Lord Multifid. lie may find them too warm at Waverley, however.
Amongst the winning owners at the Auckland Trotting .Meeting was o. C. Montclioro, who won in stakes £l7O. His mare, Golden Rose, was in lino form. From Gsec. she won the October Handicap (one mile and a quarter) in 2min. .lii'/osee., and on the second day she just strolled home in the Ball Handicap (one mile) from the Msec, mark in 2 miii. 2G l-ssce. On both occasions she was confidently backed. Ardent won very easily at Wangaiiui with S.H, and looks lo be given a great chance in the Final Scurry today with only lib. more, and weaker company competing. YVanganui sports will he ''on" to a man.
Ranpara and Sir Donald are being jumped at Balmerston. ami show a likin;/ lor the game. Edward R.. w'no raced at the Auckland Trot-;, is old enough to have a vote. One authority reckons Eddie is 27 years old!
Those who backed Warslep the other day when she couldn't raise a gallop at Duiiedin, will be pleased to hear that sin: rattled off six; furlongs in linin. 11 Fee. as usual immediately she returned home. Seme prads are more erratic than motor bikes.
Red Book, who was brought back from Sydney recently, is now under R. Derritt's care at Ricearton.
K.-ipirfc is a firm favourite in most towns for the New Zealand (.'up, but in (Auckland the ancient 1-a lteina is a warm order.
(■'ay litittrd is reported to be galloping well, and e'iiould run forward at Wa verier. P. D-e'ev has Iven nut of luek since the Auiuialo meeting, but the spell was broken last, week, when lie lauded The i'ole a winner at Timnru. The Pole carried 8." over a mile in 1.4-1, and if be jumps at all wed the I lack Steeplechasers ma..- bump a tough snag at Tivnthnm to-dav.
A. u-i nil sort of a marc was unearthed at Tinmen Inst week. This is beading l.ady. by Iloyal Artillery—-Sopia, by Posit mo—Soprano. She was bre<l in Xew South Wales by Mr Hunter White, and by the easy way in which she disposed of her opponents in the K'ingsdon Welter on Saturday she appears to be some good.
Dmise flrme is getting througli great work at Waiiganui, anil backers of King C'.iiara nny get a fair dividend at Wav" criey on Monday.
