HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of tihe New Plymouth High School Board was held at tihe Board's office yesterday afternoon, When there wer* Messrs E. Dackrj'J (chairman) !\V .N. Ewing, D. Hutchen, and M. Fraser. Judge H. Eyre Kenny was granted leave of absence. THE (NEW PROSPECTUS. Mr.'Moyes, principal of the sdhool, wrote enclosing a rough draft of the proposed new prospectaw. The photos which wcro proposed to 'be included would not cost much as the blocks were in hand. He hoped that the Board would be able to give ihim authority to plaae Vhese in the printer's hands at once, as applications for copies were frequently coming to hand: This evoked some discussion. Mr. Fraser wished to know whether, considering the present financial ,posi■vion of the Board, it wa & worth while incurring the expense, particularly as iiie school was unable to accommodate any motfe boarders at present.

In the course of the discussion it was stated what tiomc of the old prospectuses were still in hand, but that they were out of date in some respects.

Mr. Ewing: We can make room for more 'boarders somehow. On the motion of Messrs Fraser and Dockrill tihe matter was referred to the finance committee, with power to act. SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS. Mr. W. H. Moyes forwarded a lyt of chemicals and apparatus required for 1015. The total was eonsideralbir' less than last year, owing to the fact that the goods ordered in 1013 did 1 not come to hand until well on in the siecond term of the present year, therefore a fair amount (of glass-ware |a.nd chemicals ■were in stock. He pointed out that u,p to Uhe present* mo geographical aippara'tus had 'been ordered. In order to come up to the syllabus set by the University Senate and the Education Department with anything like beneficial results. the Rtfcjeat must be treated as a science. He, therefore, would be glad if the Board would grant hiin th e stim of £lO for the purchase of geographical apparatus. The total cost would amount to over £55.

Miss Grant, principal of the girls' school applied for the apparatus necessary for lhe practical work in "heat" required for the Taranaki junior university scholarship exams. This year no girls had sat for these examinations, so the ouUit had not been required. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Hutelien and Fraser, to procure the geographical appliances at a cos; n: t (o exceed £lO, and that, the principal be informed that 110 application has been made heretofore for this.

It was resolved to procure tHie chemical apparatus for both schools. Tilli PREPARATORY SCHOOL. ifr. Ilutchen gave notice to move at next meeting that the Board fix some qualification standard and age limit for pupils entering the preparatory school in future, and that' the principals of the two schools be invited to meet the Board and discuss the matter. He pointed out that- it woo unfair to botlli teachers and pupils ifliat infants should be admitted.

GENERAL. The Treasury notified pavmieitt to ilio Board'* account of flifej 19s 2d. from revenue derived from reserves and (iidowmcn..s for the quarter ending June 30 th 1914.
