NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY'S ANNUAL " MEETING. By cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Thinedin, October 15. The fifth annv.al meeting of the New Zealand Society ot Acountants was held to-night, about 40 members being present. ' Mr. ,T. Evown, vice-president, occupied the chair. The annual report slated that the i.r<scnt membership was 1007. Tlie income and expenditure account showed a s'lrplus of £402 los lOd for the year, and the accumulated fund stands at £3356 IGs 7d. In movin? thfr adoption of the report and balauce-shcet, the chairman criticised the decision toinsist on candidates passing the Senior Civil Service or Matriculation examinations before sitting for the professional examination, and said he did not think the Society would have anything to fear if such test were abandoned- He thought the system of apportioning grants to university colleges on an attendancebasis would have to T)e readjusted. Thecouncil might-have to face an increased grant to colleges where the present subsidy was inadequate. The following ivcro elected to the' council:—Canterbury district, Mr. W.
