HARBOR BOAKD. Tho monthiiv meet'ng of the Waitnra Harbor Board was held on. Friday evening. Present: Messrs J. Hinc (chairman), W. F. Jenkins, H. E. Vaughan, H. McKenzie, W. Birdling, and A. W. Ogle. ' Mr R. T. Hicks apologised for nonattendance tihrougli illness. Correspondence was read in reference to various kinds of buoys that axe used in open roadsteads, the prices being quoted up to £520. It was decided to write ito the Tirnaru Haribor Board for particulars of the buoys they have in use in their roadstead. J. Masters and Son wrote in reference to tha site they wish to procure from the Board, asking, owing to tfie unsettled state of affairs due to the war, that the Board allow the matter to »tand over for the present. —Agreed to. The cha.iTma.il stated that the subcommittee had waited on the Board's solicitors in reference tb Messrs Borthwick and Son's lease of the foreshore, stating that there was no possibility of getting the Bill iput through this session. The Board decidnd to grant MeseTs Bwthwick and Son a yearly tenancy, and tie Board will use every endeavour to secure legislation for a more secure tenure.

The chairman drew tlhe Board's attention to the necessity for a public convenience in the vicinity of the wharves, especially for the use of the Board's staff. —It was resolved to erect one, and that a committee consisting of the Chairman, 'Messrs McKenzie, and the secretary be appointed to devise the best means of carrying' out the Board's intentions.

The chairman referred *o a lebtcjr that had appeared in the local paper in reference to the cost of running the Board's office. In conversation with the Secretary some time ago on the matter, the secretary stated that, there were times when there was not sufficient work to keep the cadet fully eraployed. The chairmam thought under the circumstances that the Board could dispense with the cadet's services, and in the event of the secretary requiring any ossia-tance, the services of Mr Laing, of the pilot station, could he obtained.— The Board finally decided to dispense with the cadet's services.

A large crowd of people assembled on the recreation ground on Thursday last to witness the fancy costume football match promoted by the North Taranaki Patriotic League. A ladies' committee dispensed afternoon tea on fcho grounds, and in the evening a dance was held in ths Clifton Hall. The takings for the day amounted to about f25.

For some months past the Waitara Municipal Band have been without a room to practice in. The Council sopnc months ago erected a ehed at the bade of the Council office, where practices could take place, but for some reason or other, the Council never finished the roam, so that the Band could make use of it. Consequently the Banl has not been able to keep together. Now that the Council has decided to call in, the inst-u----ments and uniforms, the room is to foe finished without further delay for the storage of same. The funeral of Uie late Marjorie Faull, whose death occurred on Friday last through being kicked by a horse, took place at Tikorangi on Sunday afternoon. A large number of friends' followed the remains to tiheir last resting place. Mr and Mrs Faull have the sympathy of rery many friends in their sad bereavement. The Rev. Mr Harrison officiated as the graveside. A good deal of discussion took place at the last meeting of the Borough Council with regard to the of the firemen of the local Firo Brigade when attend' Tig entertainments at the St. John's Hull. Captain Frost stated that under the preM-nt ■■■ondStions the firemen had no power, and slated that when in attendance ttticrvi were informed by the licensee that if they liked they need not have the firemen there at all. Captain Frost said that tlie Brigade wanted ■to bo put on a better footing. They had no power to control the passageways and exits. The Council decided ■ that the license of the liall be recalled and conditions inserted that a fireman must be on duty at entertainments, who would exercise authority over exits and that the fireman, bo paid 2s Cd per night.
