TRUE PATRIOTISM.
To the Editor. Sir,—Kindly allow me to oiler, through your widely read paper a word of encouragement, and it may be comfort, to the few who are timidly anxious about the financial welfare of our Domioion during the war-time. The Moderate Party say that it would be a strain oil the Colonial Treasury if prohibition were carried at next election because of the loss of the revenue collected through the liquor trade. I would point out, in the event of the people deciding this year to abolish the drink trade, tliat the 'revenue will not be affected for some years, as the prohibition would not come into foi-ce for four-and-a-half years. On tins other hand, true patriotism in this war time would be l>c.-rt shown by cutting off unnecessary cxreiiditure. Thanking you in anticipation,—l am, etc., GEO. 11. MAUNDER.
