(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tha new PreAyterian church is to be opened on Wednesday, October 21. Mt S. Tata was taken to the New Plymouth Hospital on Sunday suffering from appendicitis. Tho operation took place the earns afternoon. Later reports state, that the patient is doing as well a& can bo expected. While loading timber on Wednesday morning, Mt W. Sprardlo had the misfortune to dash a heavy piece of timber on his foot, badly• crusting it. Dr. Cam/phcll dressed the wound. The sufferer will be laid-up fox somo time. There was a fair attendance ftt the Clifton Racing Club social on Tuesday evening. Excellent jniusic was supplied by Feck's Orchestra, with extras bv Misses Oarr and'Kyle. During the evenings songs were, rendered by Messrs Pcisley and White, the accompanist being Miss Bodlov. Mr ''W. Spurdle acted as M.a Lieut. Brabant and the senior cadets are doing excellent work at the- Soldiers' Cemetery in cleaning up the rubbish, etc. A well-attended meeting of the North Taranaki Patriotic League was held on Monday evening. There Mas also a large number of the.ladies' committee present. The main" subject discussed was the holding of a bazaar. The ladies, at -a previous meeting, turned clown the proposal. After a good deal of discussion it. was, deckled to substitute the name "carnival" for "bazaar." It is also intended to hold a horticultural show and flower fete in November, It was stated that several of the biirtintws people were against closing their premises for a eouplo of hows on a Saturday for the jumble sale, and it was decided to hold it on Thursday, October 20. Arrangements are well in hand for the fancy football mutch. It was also decided that the ladies should dispense afternoon tea on that occasion in aid of the fund?.
