JUDICIOUS.
To the Editor, Sir,—Adjectives anil adverbs are very useful, especially when one does not want to be delinite in speech. Mr Royd Carliclc is reported to have said at the Brotherhood on Sunday that a man should cast moderately and drink judiciously. Now, what I want to know, is whether each man is to interpret these adverbs for himself, or will Mr Garlick help a bit! Is moderate to apply to frequency of eating? 'And then how many times a day is moderate? One to five! Then, if applied to quantity, at a sitting; how many courses and how many servings? Again as to quality, would "moderate" allow all the rich disliei the chef can produce; or just what the roadman has in liis crib? It is all too perplexing for nip. I want to eat and drink moderately, and now when a lecturer comes along he leaves us in tho same old dilemma. What is judicious drinking? Bell tea or Martell's; Soig'nt's or apollinaris water; constantia or Adam's ale? I can judge, but some eannok among all the above so freely presented to tho public. Perhaps, too, judicious drinking has something to do with quantity: so many cups or glasses or quarts. Now, sir, I must stop. If I wero asked, by you or anyone else, to expound these vague adverbs, I should 'bo delighted to do bo, either in your eolumns or 011 tihe platform of the Brotherhood, but no one asks me. Ih the meantime, we must creep along a* of old, notwithstanding that a highlypaid Government officer is in our midst who deems it hig duty to teach a sort of hygiene along with physical culture. Well, I for my part, wili stick to the three plain meals a day, and drink water judiciously (that is, plentifully) and tea occasionally.—l am, etc., ' IJUIRNER.
