Juab after one o'clock to-day a aharj) earthquake shock wiuj felb in the city, Clocks stopped, windows rattled, door* slammed, and buildings wore shaken. Tho direction «§peai'ed to bo f'om south to nortk. Another elightoy shock occurred 29 minutes later, and at about 12.15 a.m. a uhoclc wm also recorded:
LIGHTHOUSE OUT OF ACTION. ■Wellington,, Last Night. Information baa beea received by l iie Marine Department from Cape Campbell lighthouse that an earthquake which eiccurred there to-day diiarranged the apparatus, preventing tie light from being gliown, and in consequence no light will be exhibited from the station until further notice. The Department will despatch the lighthouse exjpert by tfco Hinemoa to-morrow raoraing to put tia light in order. Due notice will be givgn ■when tkei light will be agaia exhibited. A slight shock of earthquake was fplti in New Plymoutk at about exe o'clock yesterday.
