LieUtehant-Cemmander Jamoa Sandback Parker (vrho was on the Aboukir) is a son of Mr and Mrs Edmund rParker, who formerly lived in Waimate, and bow reside in Putney, England. They have many friends in Canterbury. A Wellington telegram states that OoanmiMioner Rieliards, in charge of the Salvation Army in New Zfealamd for Ijlio (past two years, is to bo transferred to Canada in November, in succession to Commissioner Itees, who was drowned in the Empress of Ireland week.
Dr. A. D. Waller, M.D, LL.D., F.R.S,, director of the Physiological Laboratory University of London, arrived i» Auckland from Sydney on Sunday. Dr. Waller, who is accompanied by Mrs Waller, Miss Waller, B.Sc., Mr J. Claude Waller, 8.A., nnd Mr A. G. Waller, attended tho meeting in Australia of the British Association for the Advancement of Science.
The many friends in New Zealand oi Miss Maud Beatty (the well-known New Zealand actress of Pollard Opera Company fame), who in private life ia Mrs Jack Dawson, will regret to learn that her husband died in Los Angeles, California, on August 20th. The lato Mr Dawson was formerly an officer in the United States Army, and served in the Philippines during the war against Spain. In accordance with the decision of Goneral Booth, Commissioner and Mrs Richards are to take their farewell of New Zealand in November in order to go to Canada, where Commissioner Richards is to assume the duties of the late Commander Bees, who perished in the Empress of Ireland disaster. Commissioner Richards, who has had the Danish and South African commands, came to New Zealand a little over two years ago, when tho control of this country was separated from that of Australia. He has given a wonderful impetus to Salvation Army work in New Zealand, and during his administration some large and comprehensive schemes have been brought to fruition. Commissioner Richards has proved himself to bo one of the most hard-working and zealous territorial commanders in the Salvation Army, and his transference to the important Canadian control indicates the high esteem in which he is held by the General. He will be farewelled at m« tings to bo held in Wellington and throughout the Dominion.
