THE BATTLE NEAR TSING-TAO.
GERMAN WARSHIPS PARTICIPATE,

Tokio, September 28. The Japanese casualties at Tsing-tao were three killed and 12 wounded. i The Japanese hemmed the Germans within five miles of Tsing-tao. During the battle on Sunday three German warships bombarded the Japanese right until threatened by Japanese aeroplanes. A LIGHTNING CHANGE. GERMAN GUNBOAT BECOMES A MERCHANTMAN. Beccivod 30, 1.35 a.m. Shanghai, September 29. A German gunboat at Tsing-tao, off Bund, Canton, at the outbreak of hostilities was entrusted to the chief,engineer, as the majority of the crew-had gone to Tsing-tao. One morning she disappeared, dropped some guns and "ammunition overboard, and returned to Bund, where she was sold to a German firm for 22 pence, and is now registered 4fl a merchantman.
