Mr Donohoe, wiring from Antwerp, says he witnessed a fierce but so far unsuccessful attempt of a large army to drive tho Belgians across the Scheldt near Termonde, the general object being to menace Antwerp from the west. The force was well supplied with heavy artil'ery, but rains had made transport eo difficult that the attack developed slowly. On Friday a strong force of Germans moved along the Dcndre, while a second force was moving upon Lebbeke. The roads were now drying. There was a sharp engagement along the roud, in which tile Belgian artillery severely punished the enemy, but the Germans reserved the heaviest guns for the attack on Andegem, on the Hofstade road. When Mr Donohoe arrived tho Belgians were shelling the German infantry 3000 yards distant, German sheila meanwhile crushing the houses. Meanwhile the Germans captured Lebbeke and Saint Gillies. Here a force of German infantry crept up to the railway station, and a fierce fight occurred, the Belgians using llis bayenet with great effect.
