NOTES OX THE EACIXG. liy "Moturoa."—By Telegraph. Wanganui, Saturday. Heavy showers fell in the morning, but the weather was beautiful for the concluding day of the Spring Meeting. The track was in fine order and the sport excellent. Taranaki horses had a guod innings, Play Otf and Rewi I'oto winning, and .Maniai'oa, l)ai'by l'aul, Sir Moseley and Fisher filled minor places.

Sunbird was a-very iiot favorite in the Owen Handicap, but was never prominent. Piay Oil' was first away, but was Bteaiied, and Our King led to the straight, followed by Sanguinary. The latter looked a winner, when Play Oif drew up at Die distance, and, after a good set to, won by a head. Sir Moselcy finished fast, a elose third. Tlie Railway Ilael; Handicap was won from end to end by' Dcnise Orme. King Chira was again heavily supported, but the weight anchored him. Campeador was badly interfered with at the home turn, nnil should have won. Hereford was odds on in the Brunswick Hurdles, and won very easily. Lcapuki and Aruake made the early running, Manilau falling at the first fence, breaking F. Flynn's collar-bone. Aruake tried to give the lield the slip along the back, but Hereford cut him down easily in the straight.

Darby Paul was reckoned the best of the steeplechasers, but had to lower his colors to Waterworks, who was always near the front, and liad too mucli pace on the llat for the Taranaki horse. Te Whctu and General Webb fell, and fbhar broke down.

The betting was very even in the Higgio Handicap, the winner (Byron) being an actual outsider, but only paying a moderate dividend. This was the finest race of the day. From a good start Maniaroa and Master Lupin led. It was a bunched crowd to the turn, and a great race eusued. Byron finished fast, just beating Maniaroa by a short neck, with Master Lupin a head away, and others almost in line.

Blackall carried most money in the Moutoa Hack Handicap, but was not sighted. Austin was always handy, and won easily from Fisher. Mummer and Rcwi Poto were public choice in the Marangai Handicap,' but the New Plymouth crack again fought out tlie finish with Awahou, this time turning tl.e tables on hi 3 rival. Mia Cara made the running for six furlongs, but Eewi Poto easily settled her as they turned for home. Then Awahou drew level, bnt Rcwi Poto went right away, and won comfortably. Garance and Ardent carried public support in the Welter. Epworth and Ardent were first away, and van together to the distance. Ardent then asserted himself, and Flagfall got up in time to split the pair.
