SALVATION ARMY SELF-DEXIAL APPEAL. J WOULD just lik.e to draw the attention of our many friends to the fact that our Annual Self-denial Appeal is once more upon ua, and while I realise that the present war has called for special help for various funds, yet I would like to impress upon the public that tSie very existence of war has already made a very heavy demand on the Salvation Army, both in men and money, especially following so closely on our great loss with the Empress of Ireland party. Then we must not forget the large aomber of social institutions whose ■lender iaeome has to be supplemented from the.Self-denial Funds, and while it if enr cadeaTor to make these institutions self-supporting, yet such homes as Shelters, Maternity and Children's Hornet cannot support themselves, and hate to be assisted from week to week. Only during the week a Rescue Home baa been opened at GisLorne, while another is building at Napier, and while k>- have to regret these facts, yet I think every reasonable person will admit that the class of people these homes are built for are much better in these institutions than left to roam at large. Certainly, society is We6sed by their not being at large. Therefore I ask our many friends, if at all possible, to help us with their usual generosity, and if through the war many of our annual donations have to be cut down, we would appeal to those who in the past have not thought much about this work t» kindly come to our assintance this year. The annual report, with balancesheet, can be had on application to E. U. GIBBS, Officer in Charge.
