■MONTHLY MEETING. ' The monthly meeting of tue Board of Governors of the New riyniouth High School Hoard was held on .Monday, (Nru were present: Messrs E. It was resolved that the Board approve of the action of Mr Hall in joining the expeditionary force, and on his return 1 , if a suitable position is vacant, the Board will favorably consider bin reappointment. Application:? are to be invited by advertisement to fill Mr Hall's position on the staff.

Mr Grey moved: That the chairman and Mr Ewing be k committee to in,quire into the gymnasium requirements, 'with power to spend snob sum asi thev may deem necessary. The motion was seconded by l.)r Fookcs, and carried. It was decided that as in view of the promise made by tihe Minister, Mr Allen, 'the Board had incurred expenses over the gymnasium, that the Government be a,skcd to assist by a grant for at least a portion of the liability incurred.

RESERVES. The tender of 11. Wells for a lease of section 74, 1-2Va acres, at Onaero, at 8s per acre per annum, was accepted. The Clitton County Council wrote asking the Board to reconsider ifo decision to charge tid per yard for royalty on gravel taken from the Onacro pit, and requesting that the price should be 3d per yard. It was decided to inform tihe Council that the Board adhered to its charge of Gd, and to call upon the Couuwl to fence round the pit. GOVERNMENT GRANTS FOR RENT. Tho chairman reported that the .Department had only remitted c~. grint for the rent of the tiirls' School, and not the rent of the boardinghouse. He pointed out that the Minister had suggested the Board taking the other lions j, and the suggestion was acted upon, it l>eing understood that the department would provide the rent. He moved tlnu the Minister be reminded of his promise with regard to the boardinghouse. The motion was seconded by Mr llutchen and carried.

It was also decided to arppiy for chemical apparatus. Accounts amounting to £SOB Is 6d were passed for payment. The Board then went into committee to consider a confidential coniimuniciition from the head master, and, on resuming, adjourned.
