The weekly meeting of the Patriotic Committee was held on .Monday evening. 11l reference to the proposed holding of u bazaar, Mr. Weir stated that a ladies' j' meeting was held on Saturday evening, when only ten ladies attended, and those present were against the idea of a bazaar, but were in favor of holding a ■ (lower show in November. It was stated that as there were thirty ladies on the committee and several of those who 1' were not present were ill favor of hold- 1 ing a bazaar, it was decided that a full ■ meeting of ladies be held on Saturday ' evening next to further discuss the proposal, and the following committee was appointed to meet the ladies' committee:—Messrs Nosworthy, Ewin, Andrews, Tatton and Weir. It was de- ; cided that in the event of the bazaar j' being held, the committee will be pre- ] pared to advanco £-5 towards purchasing material, etc.

Air. Buchanan mentioned the advisability of providing for the distress in New Zealand, and suggested various ways, sucb .as growing pumpkins, cabbages, carrots, etc. The committee thought the idea a good one, and to carry out the object Mr. Joli offered to lend half an acre, of land, Mr. Buchanan two acres, .Mr. F'raser one acre, and Mr. Andrews a quarter of an acre. A subcommittee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements regarding the ploughing and planting of the ianii. Tho committee will be prepared to receive any donations for any object of distress and undertake to see that tiie msney is forwarded as instructed. The local (inn Club is holding a shooting match on Thursday in aid of the funds.

The Rev. )fr. Han son stated that special services were to 6e held on Sunday, October ], and it was intended to hand over the collections, plus the ordinary offertories. It was decided that all available money in hand be placed on fixed deposit for six months.

Mrs. A. Young has been elected president of tlm ladies' committee of the North Patriotic League, in place of Mrs. Jenkins, who lias resigned owing to ill-health.
