Received 23, 12.20 ajn. J . -Melbourne, September 22. - A. firo broke out in tho main grand stand on the showground, on which there were over a thousand people. They quickly cleared. Before the fire brigade ' arrived from a town iive miles distant tlie fire luul spread to the Exhibition portion, amidst great excitement in the large crowds. Owing to the poor water supply, the fire was not suppressed im«l - 18 structures, including the industrial pavilion and great quantities of vain* able exhibits, besides the grand stand. . costing £7OOO, had been destroyed.
