Ijance-Corporal A. G. Jennings, who is leaving with the expeditionary force, arrived ou Monday night on a short visit to 'his people, returning to Palmerston yesterday morning. Dr. MacDiarmid and Dr Wallis have been appointed to the resident staff of the Christchirrch Hospital, in place of Dr Hercus and :Br Trotter, who have volunteered for tilie front.
A Press Association message from Masterton states'that an old identity of that town, in the {person of Thomas Wilson, senr., died on Monday at the age o{ 83. He arrived ir Wellington in tile forties in the ship Oriental. Major Norton, of the Bristol and Do'minions Company, has been visiting Waitara and New Plymouth. A quiet but < pretty Wedding took place at Mrs Crockett's residence, J.wnonj (Street, on' Monday, when Mr W. J. Crockett, a memlber of tlie expeditionary force about to leave New Zealand, was married to Miss Mmide IWaJker, fifth danghleT of litr and Mrs A. Walker, Salisbury Road, Midhirat. Tha Rev. 8, S. Osborne was tie officiating minister. (Miss Florence Crockett wad bridesmaid and Mr G. BelJ was Lest mtan. The bridegroom left to rejoin 'his regiment tuxt. n.orning. Mr W. 11. Fletcher, the popular and energeitic secretary of the East End Reserve Committee, was entertained at a complimentary social in the Bast Knd Pavilion on Monday evening, when Worsihip the Mayor, on beJialf of Wie 'co-nHimtMe, presented him with a framed photograph of the Members and insets depicting the life-saving brigade, also views of the reserve. The proceedings were most enthusiastic, and tan excellent programme of songs and recitations assisted to mpke the evening I most enjoyable to all present.
