Canterbury 5%d for lightweight, 'heavy-weight, s'/ 3 <l, North Island 6/ a d for ligla-weigjht, ewes s'/ a d.
Lamb. —The market is weaker and slightly lower. Tim demand 'lias considerably fallen off, on account of the lugti prices. Canterbury 0 13-l(id, other than Canterbury, 6d for lightweight of olie very Ibest quality, o%d for fair average quality." Beef. —The market is firmer, owing to the short supply. Grilled New Zealand hinds ti%d, fores 5%d, chjlle4 feifti* 7 ! /4<l, fores a%d. Butter.—The market is quiet for best quality, and tha supply falls short ot tho demand. Danish, steady, 128s to 130 a; Sioerian, in iair demand, 114s to USs; Australian, email supplies coming forward, 110s to 12()s; Irish creamery, verv slow, 112 a to 118u; Argentine 1108 to 1183.
Cheese.—The market is quiet but steady. Canadian slow 75s to ?<*>', Englisa Cheddar quiet (lis to 84s. The market prices of New Zealand butter and dhcesc are not quoted U;is week, as the supply is practically exhausted. Hemp.—The market b dull, supplies large and prices normal. New Zealand good fair £24, fair £22 10s. The Manila output for tiie week was 15,000 bales. Sisal.—Large supply, and prices have been falling heavily. The value is £2l c.i.f. London.
Wheat.—-Tho market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. Australian 4os e.i.f.
Oats.—The market i« steady, but without animation. New Zealand 'Gartons 32s ex store.
KEWTOS KING'S REPORT. On Friday, 11th inst., at my Waiwakaiho yards, I had a lair entry and attendance. Competition for store cows was exceptionally good, and there was an improved enquiry for other cattU;— Yearling heifers, £1 6s to £1 18s fid; empty 18-month heifers, £2 16s to £3 2s; yearling steers (small), £1 10s to £2 12s; 2-yr steers, £4 9s; spring heifers, £3 17s Od to £5 15s; dairy cows, £4 10s to £6 10s; 9mall store cows or aged, £2 6s to £3 S)s; store cows, £3 17s to £4 lis; forward cows, £5 2s to £5 13s; fat cows, £7 13s; hoggte*, small 9s up to 14s 7d for fair stufT. At Douglas on Monday, 11th inst., I had a good yarding and competition for all lines, practically everything beiiif cleared at the following prices:—Holstein yearling heifers, £2 6s Gd; Jersey yearling heifers (good), £3; good Shorthorn yearling heifers, £1 16s to £2; yearling to 18-months heifers, £2 9s 3d; bulls, £3 to £4 4s; empty 18-months heifers, £2 19s; 2y 3 -year-stecrs, £0 Cs; store cows, £3 19s to £4 ss; forward and light fat cows, £5 to £6 ss; dairy cows, good, £8 to £9 15s; others, £6; springing heifers, £5 7s Od to £0 10s; smaller, £4 to £5. On Tuesday, at Stratford, for my fortnightly sale, I had a small yarding of store, hut with ft go<?d attendance of buyers from all parts. All the Offered were cleared as follows: —Yearling heifers, best, £1 17s to £2 ss; others, smaller stuff, £1 8s to 1 13s; empty 18-months heifers, £2 IS3 to £3 10s; fat cows, £6 12s to £7; forward cows, £5; store cows, £4 to £4 7s; small cows, £2 10s to £3 12s Od; fat wethers, £1 53 3d. In the dairy yard I had a big entry, including a lot of nice heifers, and these met good competition, the demand for good heifers for South Taranaki making an appreciable advance in prices, as follows: Choice heifers, from £8 10a to £9 15s; good well-grown heifers, £G to £7 12a Od; others, shade smaller, £5 5s to £5 17s Cd; small, £3 15s to £4 17s Od, the 81 heifers sold averaging £5 17s 9d; dairy cows, guaranteed, £4 13s to £5 19s.
At Stony River Yards on Wednesday I had a fair entry of cattle, which Bold as follows: —Yearling heifers, £1 6s 6d to £1 10s; yearling.stcers, £2 Is to £2 12s; empty 18-month to 2-year heifers, £2 17s to £3 12s; bulls, £6 to £6 7s 6d; fat cows, £7 17s Cd to £9; forward cows, £5 Is to £5 7s; good store cows, £4 Is to £4 12s 0d; fair store cows, £3 lis to £3 17s; old cows, £1 to £1 17a Cd; springing heifers, £4 to £7 7s Gd; dairy cows, £4 to £0 10s; f.m. ewes in lamb, 18s.
On Friday, at Waiwakaiho, for my spring horse fair, I had a good catalogue of horses, of which the majority were sold at very satisfactory prices:— Unbroken %-draught 2 and*3-yr geldings, £l3 to £18; unbroken 3-yr %- draught gelding, £3O; unbroken 4-yr-olds, £lO 10s to £26 10s; broken l / - draughts, £l6 15s to £25 15s; broken %-draughts, £26 to £3O; aged, £8 10s to £l6; draught mares, £36 to £4O; harness horses, £ll to £l7; cobs, £7 10s to £8 15s; hacks, £4 10s to £lO 10s; ponies, £3 10s to £lO 10s; aged, £2 to £3 ss. Mr Sheehy's team realised from £9 10s to £2O ss, and Mr Roebuck's horses £7 10s to £l6. Private Sales.—During the week the enquiry for all classes of stock has improved and I have made sales of good lines at the following prices:—Yearling heifers, £2 Is to £2 ss; yearling steers, £2 7s (Id to £3 ss; 2-yr steers lo make a drive of 200, £4 to £5; store cows, £4 to £4 2s; dairy bulls, £lO 10s; fat cows, £0 to £8; dairy cows, £8 10s to £8; springing heifers, £4 10s to £7 17s 6d; fat wethers, £1 as 6d; hoggets, 14a 7d to 16s; empty ewes, 15s to 16s.
