ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.

EMPIRE PICTURES. The new programme to be displayed at the Empire to-night contains a magnificent drama, entitled "The Midnight Sun." This picture is emotional, and has a most alluring plot. Featured in the story is a big mine fire, and gives a good idea of what a burning mine is really like. A splendid number of the ''Warwick Chronicle" contains the latest news from abroad, while "On the Silver Coast" is a Gaumont scenic of great beauty. "Diana's Dress Reform" and "Bertie Gets the Cash" are two clever comedies. "The Mexican's Gratitude" is a striking drama which should appeal to all. Seats reserved as usual. Phone 365.

THE SALVATION ARMY. To-night Adjutant Gibbs, the local delegate to the International Congress in London, will give a very interesting talk on the Congress and places visited on the Continent and in Egypt. What will add to the interest is the fact that the Adjutant secured some 05 colored slides of Congress scenes and places visited. These slides show portions of the great march from Thames Embankment to Hyde Park, Crystal Palace scenes, also many of the delegates from various parts of "the world. Prominent London sights will also be shown, and last, but not least, the ill-fated Empress of Ireland. Mr, ilaunder has kindly lent his lantern. Numbers of the Salvationists will don various international costumes for the inarch at 7.15 p.m. The sixpence admission will be devoted to the self-denial appeal now starting.

" THE DANDIES." The fine reputation at present standing to the credit of "The Dandies" should materially assist in' ensuring a hearty reception*when lliey open in the Theatre lloyal next Monday evening. The excellent WH-of-fare which these popular people present will doubtless go a long way towards enhancing their great popularity. "The Dandies" have become recognised as a winter amusement institution in New Zealand to the same extent as that in which they are regarded during the summer in Australia. The company which is coming to New .Plymouth this season is composed of artists who have not previously been seen here. They are being presented with excellent credentials, and they should have no difficulty in holding the esteem of the public, as did the famous "Red Dandies." hi the matter of vocal equipment, the company has several first-class performers, prominent among them being Miss Ethel Walker, soprano, Miss Linda Bradford, contralto, -dr. David Lyle and Mr. Andrew Pace two very fine tenor singers. Mr. Harry Webster, a character comedian, is also included. The comedy section is well represented, the leading member of tlr.s department being Mr. Jioland Henry, an English performer of repute. The plan is now open at Colilcr's.
