FITZROY CU'li. Twenty-two members of the Fitzroy Howling Club attended tin- annual meetin;,' on Friday night, the president (Mr \Y. llealy) presiding. In presenting the ninth annual report, tlie president expressed pleasure in stating that the past year had been tile most successful in the annals of the club. The membership had increased, and they started the coming season with a credit balmiee, notwithstanding tho many improvements that have been carried out since the. playing season closed. The green played well last season, and should lie even bet-' ter this year, as there had been a lot of work done on it, and it should be soon fit for play if the weather is favorable. The. secretary, Air L. Olivers, had carried out his duties in a very thorough manner, and also the green warden, Mr S. J. Smith, whose attention to the green had in no small degree brought it to its present ellicient state. The club played a number of interelub matches, and also sent two rinks to\the Wanganui tournament and succeeded in running into second place. In the, Saturday matches the club won every match'finished. The annual tournament last year was very enjoyable, and as the tournament was being held in New Plymouth again this year he hoped that the young members would put in for it, as they would get a great. deal of pleasure and experience from so doing. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. H. .lackson; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Healy, F. C. liellringer, T. G. Sole, S. J. Smith, 0. Oxenham; lion, secretary, Mr L. Chivers (re-elected); general committee, Messrs J. Abbott, S. J. Smith. F. 0. Bellringer, 'A. S. llrooker, and W. llealy; match committee, Messrs W. Healy, J. Abbott and E. Dingle; green warden, Mr S. J. Smith. The formation of a Saturday matcli committee was left to the Saturday players. GENERAL.
Mr Smith said that lie hoped a Saturday competition could be arranged among the different clubs. He would be perfectly willing to present fome trophy in the event of a competition being started. The 'president and Mr Healy wore appointed delegates to the. association. . The green warden sttaed that the! greens would be ready for play on Thursday next—lt was decided that the <rreens lie open for play on Thursdays and Saturdays, commencing next Thurs- | day and that the official opening take , plaVe on Thursday, October *>, after | which date the green will be open every ' a jfr J. Abbott was appointed green warden of the croquet lawns, and Messrs Heel, Lealand and Oxenham were appointed to act with him. Reference was made to the good work done by the secretary, and it was decided to grant him an honorarium ot i•?s and free membership for the year.
