Ernest Henry Maekay, aged 20, a carter by occup-aticn, was charged at the' Police Court with the attempted murder of His father-in-law, -Augustus La.frtte, by tiring a • revolver at 'hiin. There had been trouble between Maekay and his wife and the latter recently sought a separation order on the around of cruelty.. That application was adjourned, the Magistrate advising Mackav .meantime . to keep away from his wife. She went to live with her parents. Mackav called and as.ced to be allowed to 'see his iwifc,. hut ilr> Lafitte refused permission ami shut.the door and immediately heard a revolver shot. Mr La fit le. went oat'intending to pcnil MackaJ' away and alleged that Mackav pointed a revolver at. Jinn and fired, the bullet going' within si few inches of bis head., Accused was remanded till Friday and bail was refused.
