The contracts 1 in operation were not extensive enough tor the purpose of recoating ail tilie worn-out sections on the main road, tout it was advisable; tnat liabilities be restricted at the present time.
Tikorangi Riding.—The offer of Mie settlera to metal poralion of the Bertrand road had been officially submitted. Breaking was proceeding in Freeling's pit. Ngatimiaru Hiding.—Tho erection ot the Tai-amouku 'bridge was nearing completion, and should ibe out of hand in a few days. The tender for the erection of Webb's culvert was declined, and fresh tenders were called for same.
Urenui Hiding.—Further re-coating had Ibeeni proceeding on the Onaero hill and adso the Okoke hill. Wihittiiker and Sons were proceeding witih, the Piko road extension. The boulden contract at had not progressed owing to unavoidable circumstances. This metal should ibe crushed andi disposed ot) as eairly as possible. Carey's application: He inspected this work and- suggested mat! if the applicant iploughed up the necessary length of rood. that he would recommend the council "to authorise it 'being graded. Mokau Biding,—The boulder contracts were proceeding slowly. Jones' culvert wag completed with the exception of the earthwork. Extended wingi were necessary there, also to uphold tiie banks, which proved very unstable. The piles for the flood opening work had been cast ami were maturing. The .'other bridge works were proceeding as'circumstances permitted. 'l'Jic. Gilbert road! had been surveyed from the Mokau wad, at Selby's. request. The Department of Agriculture notifieu that the plant known as spiderworl; (leycestim fonnosa) had llieen added to the third schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act. Or. Hicka stated that .this weed was spreading in various parts of the county, and on the motioa of Crs*. Kennington and ilicks, it was resolved that spiderwort be declared a noxious weed with the county. TENDER'S.
Fresh tenders were received for t!i,; construction of Webb's culvert, but these were declined, as being too liigii. AJie question of substituting, pipes was discussed, and finally the matter w.i* 'held over until next meeting. Acceptance of tenders for maintenance metal at t'arata and at Bu'i'l ode's •pit wore held over until next meeting. A tender >or metalling anJ formation on the Mimi-Mokuu road (Government grant) was declined, beinj too high. Fresh .tenders will be called for next meeting. GENERAL. Andersons, Ltd., objected to a dedu - tion of 5% per cent, ow 'the accounts for material for the Putiki and Taramototett bridges. This, they stated, h>ul not eosfc more than originally estimat-d. Tlie amount will be forwarded. Tenders wiill be called for the erection of a surfaceman's cottage at Turata, provided that a suitable site, can in- ol> tfcimed.
