W<4bster presided over an 'a titcndanco of about thirty, wuiich included members of the Taranaki Rugby ÜBion, Kelt roes' Association, and of other clubu, as well as the majority el the junior team. After full justice had 'been done to the excellent provender, riujiplied by Mr Wooller, a couple ot hours was spent in harmony. Tug following toast list was disposed of in tfcs imual time-honored fashion: —"Xlic King," proposed by the chairman, ami loyally responded to; '"Taranaki -Rugby Union," proposed r oy ilr S. Paul, and responded to by Messrs .las, McLeod" (chairman) and Garcia; "The KeferQes.' proposed by Mt N. West, and responded to by Messrs li. Petty and 0. West.; "Tukapa Juniors," proposed by .Mr .Lis. McLeod, and responded to by Mr. \V. \\ la taker (captain), who, in the course of his reply, referred to the great interest that Mr Drinkwater, their manager, had taken in the junior team, and on behalf of the juniors presented ii.' Drinkwater with a framed enlargement 'of fhe team. Tlie team's success, -lie concluded, was largely due to Mr. Drink water'B efforts and enthusiasm. Tlie health of the recipient was tiien •proposed, honored and suitably responded to. "Kind-red Sports" was proposed by llr Patterson, and responded to by Messrs Smith (bowls) and Stolir (tennis); "The Ladies," propos>d by Mr. Leary, and responded to by .M:' D. Roebuck; "Tlie Press," proposed s the chairman, and responded to by Lie representatives of the Taranaki Daily N'ews and 'Taranaki Herald; "Tlie Hast" and "The Chairman' concluded the toast list. During the evening, ■:/> behalf of the donor, Mr Jas. Clarcia presented Mr N. West with the med.il donated by Mr Jas. McLeod for the | most improved player, and to Mr. )-• Whitaker that donated by Mr Oeo. Talior for the best all-round player, i 'l'lie toasts were interspersed:- wit.li musical items, the contributors beni" Messrs Wakefield (3), H. Patterson, Jv Steele (2), 8. Paul, G. Julian (2), \\. Whitaker (2), li, Smith, N. West an I Jury. Mr H. Patcrson played the accompaniments.
NEXT THURSDAY'S MATCH. The Taranaki Rugby Union's representative tram will be ealle<'( upon on Thursday next to make its first serious 'clfort to defend the Kanfurly Shiei.l. A match between the two provinces is always worth seeing, and the match on the 10th inst. promises to lie more exciting than usual. Thif' match has been set down to be played at Stratford, in order that people from every part of the province will be able to vvew t|ie contest alt a minimum cost. Suitable train arrangements, with excursion fares, have been made, and 110 doubt a large crowd will assemble in Stratfunl on the appointed day. Taking a line through the matches played by the contesting provinces with t'anteiburv. Tiiranaki should just about win.
