An incident occurred in the gun rescue event at the Hunt Club, races whien created considerable amusement to the spectators, though it rather chagrined those principally affected. The conditions were that team? of four mounted men should gallop some distance up to a cannon —in this case a very gc-cd imitation—attach ropes thereto and gallop with it back tio the starting place, t'e.s gun. being replaced at the original .point for the next squad. Time, as well as style, wa« taken into account. One of the squads, while galloping heroically to the scene, was astonished to see the enemy, in the shape of tiiiree inveterate jokers, emerge from a gully near by, commandeer the cannon, and' make.oil with it to the next paddock. The dis - comfiture of the squad at the wasted gallop can be imagined. Of course, the gun was 'brought back, and the rescue commenced again. The particu:.ir squad did not win, and, of course, laid the Wame to the gaJiop having blown their mounts.
