INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The excellent weather that we have enjoyed during the past fortnight has brought the tennis racquet out after its >winter seclusion. Already several members of the local club have come down for a few sets, but they are now temporarily barred, as- the asphalt .courts are undergoing their annual top-dressing. Air. R. <3. Branch, the newly-appoint-ed borough overseer, has taken up his duties, and already shown that he is ! an active worker and knows his work.
The cribbage tournament has been advanced another stage. Bowlers defeated Egmont Village by 27 games to 24, while the Druids disposed of Pirates by 22 games to 18. Favored by excellent weather, the G Company, XT. Regiment, Taran&ki Rifles, military ball eventuated in the Town Hall on Thursday night last. About seventy couples were present. The hall was decorated with flags, and the stage bountifully furnished, while tho floor was excellent. Quite a number of scarlet coats appeared on the floor, these lending a gay appearance to the function. The music, supplied by the Inglewood orchestra, was delightful, and with the addition of a splendid supper, the affair was a pronounced success. The Patriotic Committee arc. still busily outraged with various entertainments at country centres, and as all to date have been very successful, they have every hope of attaining their goal—£looo. The fund is now approaching £GOO.
