Brisbane, Augu.it 31. At the Science Congress papers were read on tropical agriculture, wireless telegraphy, cosmic physios and other subjects.
WELCOMED IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. The visiting scientists were officially welcomed by the Mayor in the Municipal Buildings. a rf,r. Parr made reference to Sir Ernest Rutherford as New Zealand's greatest son.
Sir E. Rutherford, replying, said those wfoo had come to New Zealand were only a remnant of the party crier. rnally arranged. They were profoundty ■impressed with the great loyalty displayed in Australasia. He was' very proud that the land of his birth was takiig smch a prominent part in tnis titanic struggle. The capture' of Samoa was, the first fruits of the New Zealand contribution to .the war.
Professor Ely replied on behalf of United States scientists. He emphasised the mission of scientists a 5 one of unity, and expressed pride in the British race.
Professor Ball, political economist, of Oxford, declared that the future of the world belonged to those nations which havo fauth in science. It was because our, great enemy had brought science into the realms of war that it was an opposing force of such tremendous strength. He looked to science to knit tne world together. The visitors ware entertained at luncheon by the Mayor.
