FARM AND DAIRY.

LOVEI.L AND CIIUJST.UAS. At tlio annual meeting of Lovel] anil Christmas, 1.ti1.. the chairman, in the course of his address, notified a dividend of 8 per cent. The following oxtracts are also given: There was only one particular thing that created a difficulty during the past year, and that was a very serious'one. 1 am alluding to the strike in New Zealand. That was a very costly matter to everyone engaged in importing provisions from that part of the world, and I may say that it cost your company at least from £SOOO to £HOM. <ioods accumulated at the ports of shipment for'weeks, and w.hen they did arrive in huge quantities of course lliey produced a slump in the market, and very much lower prices were obtained than otherwise would have been the case if tin; goods hail come forward in the ordinary course. In many instances the cost of the goods in Xew Zealand, and the advances mate"without recourse" were not covered by the prices realised here. Before, passing from New Zealand, 1 should like to say a word in commendation of the manner in which the New Zoalandcrs tackled this difficulty. The farmers, factory people, their sons and employees came down to the ports and loaded the goods themselves. (Hoar. near). But for this I think the losses would have been much more serious. We are always looking about in every direction for fresh sources of supply, because there is generally some source failing. During the last season there was a slight falling oil' from Canada and France, but we have had large increases from tin' colonies and Siberia, and the Argentine is coming along very well, producing good butter, and likely to produce in the future considerable' quantities. We are well represented in all these plaves.
