SOUTH AFRICAN TROOPERS FOR
THE FRONT
Received 30, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, August 2tf. IPrincess Patricia's Light Infantrv Regiment, composed exclusively of Canadian veterans of the South African ww, raised by the generosity of a Montreal millionaire, Mr 'Hamilton Gautt, marched through Ottawa and Montreal, and were greeted with enormous enthusiasm. The Duke of'Connaught and Princess Patricia visited the camp before their departure, the Princess presenting colors embroidered by herself.

Ottawa, August 2S. Tlia War Office instructions indicate that tho Canadian contingent will go direct to tile front.
The Provisional Governments are making provision for all unemployment arising out of the. war. All public works will be continued.
Vancouver reports that all the regular trans-Pacific sailings %iH be resumed within a week, as, owing to tho arrival of tho cruiser Newcastle, nothing, U fcared_ from the German cruisers LepV.ig and Nuremberg. '(The Newcastle is a light cruiser of 4820 tons, with two Oin and ten tin guns. Her speed is 25 knots.)
A SENTRY KILLED.
Received 29, 7 p.m.
Montreal, August 28. An unseen sniper shot and killed a sentry while guarding the canal near Soulanges. Several 'attempts on the lives of Highlanders engaged in guarding the canal have previous!/ been made.
