(By "Boturoa") ! Details of racing at Rosetiill (N.S.W.) j 'show that the Aueklander Merrimax llili : a, very comfortable win in the sefeond ! hurdles'. A dozen started, the New ZeajSander starting at a good price, but at the end of a mile there was nothing j in it but the winner. A rank outsider in Loadstar wa,s looking dangerous until he struck the last fence, leaving Merrimiax to win easily by five lengths. Tile stake was only worth 100 sots, to the winner, but the betting at Roschiii is phenomenal, and Mr. W. Kyan must have won a tidy sum over the Merriiwee gelding's victory. There is a Reconnoitre running in 'Sbralia, and strangely enough is by the ex-New Zealand sire Machine Gun'. He evidently 'lias some of 'his sire's pace as he won the Goldfields Purse at. Kalgo<wlie in fast time. He about the same dividend as tlie Chief did at Riccarton recently. A par was going the rounds recently reporting tins death of Mr. .7. O'Driseoll, well-known 'in 'this town. "Jerry" eavg that he is auiipriscd to hear it!
Bob iSoult, by Soult—Cloohette, Tan off with t'ne lightning H'andica.p at the Adelaide Grand National meeting. Ventura was made a warm wrder foi the Dnniiami Plate, weight-for-age, Torn over a mile at the Queensland Tuirf Club's meeting. She honned out smartly and soon had a two lengths lead. When the straight was reached sllie looked a moral, but cracked up end finished outside a place. papers consider she -was sent along too faat in tho early pari, of the race to have anything better than rear view of the finish.
Paoli was amongst the runners in the August Handicap (one. mile) at the Y'.O.Pt. August meeting, but finished well back. The cx-New Plymouth nag has got up, and as the mile wis cut out in lroin. 42%scc, it was just a trifle to> torrid for liim. Paoli will lake. Rome, placing before lie wins over there. Midnight Sun, who won the New Zealand Chip ®.f 11)12, and was recently retired from the tnrf. won first ipriae for blood stallions' at the Barcaldme (Queensland) show. The raees< Paritutu won are only tiifling compared with Cie races he nearly "lamk'd." lie was second to that crack Noebuifortm. in the New ZeaSand Cup, second to Shrapnel in thfl Grand National Hurdles, second to Sbormont, and again second to Paisamo in the same race. That was "knocking at the door" v.-itli a caution!
