The Recreation Ground is in splendid order for the ntatdh. betweea Southland and Taranaki to-<lay, and, given fine weather, a fast, open game should bo the result. Both teams are very strong. The Taranaki team, is the beat available, and inicludcs several New Zealand players; vis;., Roberts, Cain, Loveridge, Brown, Taylor, Colman and Stohr. Tin-ae teams have met on three occasions, Taranaki gaining the verdict each time, winning in 1890, at Invercargill, by 5 points to 3; in 1906, at Hawer.i, by 14 points to 8; and in 1912, at lir-vencargill, by 12 points to 11. The match will (.-tart at 3 p.m. Special delayed trains have been arranged. Mr. Geo. Nidu>lsO:i, of Auckland, will be referee. SECONDARY SCHOOLS TRIANGCLAR TOURNAMENT. Prior to the Shield match, a vurtainraiser will be played between Pafeneruton North and New Plymouth High School. This will open the annual triangular shield competition, in which Napier, I'alnrt'.mton North and New Plymout3u High Schools participate, the matches being played at alternate centres. Keen interest is always display*! in these matches, in which s-rape fin; football is shown, fostlxill of the bright and breezy variety, such as only two well-trained and coached teams of col le.ffe boys can display. Both teams have epecdv hacks, whose combination is said to be much a/bove thfl average. The .Palnierston boys arrived by the mlail train last night, and will be billeted with the parents of the boya «f the 10e,?.i High School. The Napier High School hoys will arrive this evening.
