PATRIOTIC FGN'DS. Sydney, August 20. The AssemWy passed Bills .providing for the amalgamation of the various patriotic funds, a Bill giving the Government power to proclaim a moratorium, also a measure to deal witli withdrawals from the savings bank if the need arose. A bill providing against the inflation of prices of nec&sary commodities was passed through committee. Regarding the moratorium and savings banks, Mr. Holman explained that the hoped the legislation would not be required, but it was better to he .prepared for possible j contingencies. Arrangements arc being made tckeop the Broken Hill mines going on shortened time in order to relieve distress. It is notified that the French mail I steamers are resuming. I fTattersaH's Club has donated £looo to the Patriotic Fund.
VICTORIAN CONTINGENT. Melbourne, August 20. ' Great and enthusiastic crowds watched the march of the Victorian contingent of the expeditionary force through the. streets. The Government is adopting a modification as regards general telegrams, hutthere is no relaxation on thost'conveying information of the movements of shipping or military and naval news. Arrangements have been made for discharging the cargoes of the detained German vessels. The Tramway company has donated £3OOO to the Lord Mayor's Fund, which is now £56,000. MORATORIUM, | Adelaide, August 20. The Assembly adopted bills proclaiming a limited moratorium covering mortgages and purchase of land, and providing for the collection of information with reference to foodstuffs and supplies.
